World Penguin Day

Birdland is great for groups visiting the Cotswolds

Join us on Saturday 25 April for a special World Penguin Day celebration at Birdland, highlighting our much-loved penguins and the important work helping to protect them.

Birdland is the only place in England where you can see majestic King Penguins, making it a truly unique destination for wildlife lovers. Alongside them, our Humboldt penguins at Penguin Shore are thriving, with plenty to see throughout the colony.

Our most recent penguin update is the arrival of three male Humboldt penguins, Nick, Gary and Flash, who have recently joined the group. Their names were chosen by the public in a Facebook vote, and they are settling in well.

It is also an exciting time of year as we are in the middle of breeding season, with eggs expected to hatch in the coming weeks. Following a successful 2025, last year’s chicks, Del Boy, Rodney and Raquel, are all doing well and can be spotted at Penguin Shore, easily recognisable by their juvenile feathers.

Visitors can enjoy daily penguin feeding sessions and talks, offering a great opportunity to learn more about the colony:

11:00am – Penguin Breakfast
3:00pm – Main Feed

Celebrate World Penguin Day with us and get closer to one of our most popular species, while discovering how Birdland is helping to protect penguins for the future.
