An Unusual Christmas Day at Birdland

Xmas day 2 - An Unusual Christmas Day at Birdland

This Christmas Day Keepers at Birdland Park & Gardens have a cracker of a day planned!
When Santa and his reindeer have finished for the night, Keepers at Birdland will be up with the larks to look after their flock of native and tropical feathered friends.
Head Keeper, Alistair Keen is ‘Father Christmas’ to the colony of King Penguins, the only breeding group in the UK, and comical Humboldts that inhabit Penguin Shore.
He says: “I’ve looked after the penguins at Birdland for 15 years now and Christmas Day is one of my favourites! I give the penguins an early Christmas lunch of herrings and sprats, play some festive games including ‘Chase the Pudding’ to encourage their development and finish up by giving my hand-reared King Penguins Spike and Charlotte an extra treat.”
He continues: “We finish the day early on the 25th December so that we can then go home to our human-families for a traditional Christmas dinner!”
Visitors can head to Birdland, Bourton-on-the-Water daily this festive season to meet the parcel of penguins at Penguin Shore from 10am – 4pm (excluding Christmas Day).
