Penguin Week – May Half Term 2014
Penguin Week: Celebrate Penguins this May Half Term with a visit to Birdland
It’s Penguin Week at Bourton-on-the-Water’s Birdland for May Half Term from 24th May – 1st June.
Penguin fans will be able to put their knowledge to the test with a fun quiz and enjoy special talks about the ‘waddle of penguins’ which includes the only King Penguins on display in the England and also a comical gang of Humboldts.
Feeding displays will take place every day at 11am and 2.30pm and there will be a chance to win an opportunity to step inside Penguin Shore and help the head-keeper feed the residents.
Hoping that the May Half Term will be warm and sunny, Penguins will be enjoying the sprinkler system for the warm days when the penguins love to cool off under the spray.
Head Keeper Alistair Keen says, “Both the King penguins and the Humboldts love to sunbathe then cool off under the sprinkler system. There is always of lot of playful behaviour exhibited, the penguins really love the warm weather!”
He continues “We know that penguins in the wild have moved to the warmer waters and that they don’t just live in the colder climates, our penguins are no exception to enjoying the summer sun!”
Plus meet Spike the King Penguin, who has over 1500 Facebook fans and is a regular tweeter about his life in the Cotswolds and at Birdland! He was hand-reared by Alistair Keen the Head Keeper and is one of the most popular residents.
