Our oldest pair of King Penguins Seth & Missy have laid the first egg of the year. Missy, aged approximately 37, & Seth, 34, have paired up every year for the past few seasons and always produce eggs.
Keepers have removed the egg and placed it in the incubator for safe keeping. Weighing in at 262 grams the egg will be weighed every other day to see if it is fertile & developing properly.
In previous years we would have given the pair a fake, or dummy, egg to incubate but due to the age of the birds and the increase in temperature it was decided to remove the egg and not replace it.
We’ll keep you informed of any developments
