Stanley Crane

Anthropoides paradiseus

Also known as the Blue or Paradise Crane.

Like all cranes they are long lived birds and are not sexually mature until they are about 5 years old.

Behaviour: All cranes have ritualistic mating displays which develop depending on the species, but this will usually entail some form of dancing, jumping, calling, running and carrying of some vegetation. This can happen many times and has been recorded from 20 minutes to 4 hours. This obviously enhances the bond between the birds to ensure the dedication to protect each other, the eggs and chicks.

These birds are part of a European breeding programme.
