There are eight species and they primarily inhabit warm regions, Australia, the Americas and Canada.

There is a limerick about the Pelican:

A wonderful bird is the pelican
His bill can hold more than his belican
He can take in his beak
Food enough for a week
But I don’t see how the helican

Meet the Pink-backed Pelican from Africa.  Well known for their large beaks with a large skin pocket/flap designed for catching fish. Feeding displays take place daily at Pelican Bay, so you can see their amazing beaks in action.
